The girl at the table has not yet revealed her hand.
Her attention is drawn to some other life
Of movement and shadow. Half of her face
Turns to an interior that I cannot enter.
Later,her self-possession is only outline,
A darkness dealt by memory;
The mannered shape of a wrist
Or her fingerprint marking my card.
(I have just realised that line 2 commits Sean's cardinal sin- "some...." and I have used a semi colon to further upset him)
Our position regarding the semi colon needs to be clarified in the manifesto. Concerning 'some', I leave that to others. It is obvious that further careful deliberation on these questions by the Ventenackers is urgently required.Perhaps there is a pub between here and Middlesborough where we could all convene for an historic plenum on the colonic controversy?
ReplyDeleteWe should do that some time.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm up for that !
ReplyDeleteHead north from Islington- it's grim up here !
Sean actually said (under the guise of irony) that the semi colon was "undemocratic" as opposed to the egalitarian colon.
